Believe it or not, this cocktail is technically an old fashioned based on the classic definition – spirit, sugar, and bitters. It’s a bit on the sweeter side, but not a “sugar bomb”. A perfect choice for someone who is easing into the world of cocktails and is more comfortable with gin than whiskey.
This cocktail is featured in Robert Simonson’s excellent book on the history of the old fashioned, The Old-Fashioned: The Story of the World’s First Classic Cocktail, with Recipes and Lore.
