Whether Hemingway created this cocktail or not is the subject of much speculation. If it’s true that Hemingway said “Write drunk; edit sober,” then this is the cocktail he was drinking.
The 1920s version calls for an ounce and a half of absinthe, but at around 60% ABV, that’s quite a potent drink. Feel free to adjust the quantity of absinthe to your taste and tolerance level. It’s wise to be selective in the absinthe you choose in this cocktail since it’s prominently featured and not simply a rinse.
